Muslims take message on the road!
St. Petersburg Times covers the ICNA's national campaign to place huge billboards along the nation's major highways. ICNA chapters of Philadelphia, Atlanta,  Washinton DC, Los Angeles, Dallas, New Jersey, South Florida, Sacramento, San Francisco, Houston, New York, Chicago and Boston are participating in this public awareness effort.
"Muslims hope this billboard along Interstate 4 will entice the curious to visit the Web site and learn about their religion. SEFFNER — The billboard sits along the eastbound side of Interstate 4, just west of McIntosh Road. But unlike other signs hawking fast food joints, gas stations or amusement parks, this one poses a spiritual query: "Purpose of Life? 877-WHY-ISLAM?..." If you call the number you'll reach an office in Somerset, N.J. run by the Islamic Circle of North America, a Muslim advocacy group based in Jamaica, N.Y. Hurricanes Gustav and Ike have Blown Away; ICNA Relief USA Remains on the Ground. 
Since September 27, 2008 the IKE Recuperation Center has been in operation, managed by ICNA Relief USA. Open daily from 1pm to 5pm, the center, partnered with the FEMA and the American Red Cross, serves Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), bottled water, ice, cleaning supplies, cat litter, laundry detergent, wipes, etc. There is also a doctor on site to help with minor medical issues. |

NPR: Spiritual Subway: Islam Ads Seek To Educate NYC |

group is hoping its new ad campaign will help catch the eyes of millions of people who ride the New York City subway system every day. Tucked in between subway car notices featuring poetry, as well as advertisements for everything from gum and beer to dermatologists and churches, are ads designed to educate New Yorkers about Islam. The group behind the ads, the Islamic Circle of North America, decided that Ramadan, which takes place all through the month of September, was the perfect time to implement what they call their "Subway Project" on 1,000 of the system's more than 6,000 subway cars. The design is simple: black, white and very little text. The two-paneled ads feature the words "Islam," "Head Scarf" or "Prophet Muhammad," as well as the phrase "You deserve to know." The ads also include a phone number and a Web site for those who want to learn more about Islam. |
